The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has announced that it supports the mandatory wearing of masks for passengers and crew while on board aircraft but does not support social distancing measures that would keep the middle seats empty. By keeping the middle seats empty, we can expect ticket prices for air travel to increase so as to ensure that the airline maintains its profitability. Social distancing by keeping the middle seats empty are also not fully effective as there would be less than a metre distance between passengers.
